(This is a continuation of the previous two Russian Revolution posts, explaining the events leading to the recent creation of the USSR.) After overthrowing the old government, power was divided between a provisional government and the Petrograd Soviet. However on November 6 and 7, a group of leftist revolutionaries, lead by Vladimir Lenin (Bolshevik leader) seized power from the provisional government in a nearly bloodless affair. Lenin became the leader of the Marxist state that emerged from this. However, in 1918, civil war against the anti-Bolsheviks arises. In 1920, the Bolsheviks come out victorious. And fast forward to present day- in 1922, the USSR is established!
